The Power of Words is Unbelievable

Last night as I sat at the ocean looking out at a dark sky full of brilliant stars, I remarked, “Incredible.”  My friend responded by slowly rolling this word off her tongue, “Unbelievable.”  And then, “Aren’t we blessed?”  Somewhat amazed at my good fortune to be in this almost overwhelmingly beautiful place on Earth, I said, “It’s too good to be true.”

Stop.  Rewind.

I remembered what my dear friend and mentor, Barbara Marx Hubbard pointed out to me many years ago.  We tend to make incredible what is credible and unbelievable what should be believable.   In the mind’s effort to save us from the disappointment of a fleeting moment of deep joy we say, “It’s too good to be true,” negating the exquisite feeling that touches our hearts.  I suggest that the next time you see a magnificent sunset, don’t diminish it (and yourself) by saying “It’s as pretty as a picture.” Open to receive it completely and take it all in.  It sure feels good.

This year, I invite you to join me in embracing the magnificence that surrounds us, by changing our words when we notice that they put a distance between us and the joy of Creation.  To feel and proclaim, “It’s so magnificent it brings me to tears!”  To fully experience the joy of accepting the gifts that abound by restating,  “It is credible, believable, and yes, I am truly blessed.” This is the stuff of a positive revolution.

Our words not only empower us to feel the full magnificence of the creation we are, they pass it on to our next generations.  My fifteen-year-old son, Michael, for example, just got a job teaching gymnastics at the local rec center.  He loves it.  I have to wonder if all of the years I intentionally said, “I am going to work now” instead of “I have to go to work now” made a difference in his subconscious.  I know that my life changed from the moment I learned that I choose my actions rather than being bound by should, ought to, or have to.   Imagine the impact on our world when our children know and experience the power of positive choices at an early age.

I hope you’ll co-create the positive revolution in 2006 by choosing words that emPOWER you, your family, your coworkers and your community.  Experience the joy!

With gratitude,

“The future is now:  you are creating it in this very moment.  What do you choose?”

Revolutionary Agreements is absolutely marvelous!  After reading it, it now sits on my desk as a meditation resource. It has answered so many unusual questions and events.  I just open to a page and the solution rolls out. Thank you so much for writing this ‘gift’ to all of us. Siblings Lighten UP With Respect

Linda Clark is a mother, life coach, and guide for leaders on Dolphin healing adventures (next one in Puerto Vallarta, March 1).   She has a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver and is a graduate of Naropa University’s Authentic Leadership and Advanced Coaching Program.    coachjmajic@aol.com

I have been practicing the Agreements in some form since 1990 when I was first introduced to them. In my coaching practice, I assist my clients in developing their capacity to respect differences and honor choices. In my experience, these two very powerful Agreements are key to almost any challenge life has to offer.  Invariably, they help us to lighten up and open to a flow of joy.

In my personal life these Agreements helped me immensely in healing my relationship with my only sibling, my older sister. During early childhood, we often had fun and, like all siblings, conflict.    I viewed my sister as the powerful one, both physically and mentally; I often felt weak and disempowered.  To further strain our tenuous relationship, as we grew older, we found ourselves on opposing sides of the political fence.

Respecting our Differences and Lighten Up were vital to healing my relationship with my sister.  The key was to feel comfortable with who I am while allowing her to be herself (truth and acceptance). It was a slow process with constant reminders along the way to lighten up… and it has paid off.

My mission, at this time, is to live my life in joy, delight, and gratitude.   I am now grateful to be living that mission more fully in my relationships with family and friends, and in my work coaching and connecting leaders with the awesome healing power of Dolphins.

Linda Leary, News Editor
newseditor@RevolutionaryAgreements.org

While Marian felt blessed on the sandy, sunset shores of Kauai, I held down the fort in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  I got my blessed “high” from sitting on a boulder by a tumultuous river at 7000 feet wrapped in a warm jacket, sun on my face with words of nature’s beauty dancing in my head.   A poet’s dream.  What are your dreams for this year?

2006 - New Beginnings
By Linda Leary

2005 is past and done.
The thought may give me pause.
It’s 2006 and I get to choose
to be effect or cause.

There were many things I did not do
and many that I did.
Many times I faced my fears
and sometimes I just hid.

But through it all the sun came up
and moonlight lit the skies.
At every turn I had the choice
to see with grateful eyes.

So now I take it up a notch
to live my mission true.
I made my brand new dream board
with all that I will do.

I’ll take command and see good things
in me as well as you.
I’ll treat the earth as I would myself,
and relax, reflect and renew.

I’ll write my truth and speak my heart,
With pen in hand I’m strong.
To take a stand with gentleness
and make no other wrong.

Tis a bridge for peace I want to be
tho the form may not be clear.
The keys are trust and love and joy
and staying out of fear.

This all may seem a daunting task
for one no longer young.
And tho my age may slow my limbs
it has not slowed my tongue.

I speak, I write, which is my joy.
I’m blessed beyond compare.
My fingers dance alive with words,
the words I want to share.

It’s a brand new year and a brand new start.
It’s a second chance for all.
So jump on board and live your dream.
Now listen – hear the call?
