The Art of Love

Everywhere I go, people are talking about the relationships they have… or wish they had.  Even at this year’s Conference on World Affairs, enthusiasts gathered for a session on “The Art of Love.”  As I listened to the panelists, I found myself doodling on my notepad, trying to make sense of their contrasting thoughts.  Suddenly, a definition of The Art of Love arose on that thought-filled page like a bright sun breaking through a cloud-filled sky:

The Art of Love is bringing out the best in your partner
while being the best of who you truly are.

A few days after sharing this notion with a friend, she reported that it had a dramatic effect on both her and her son with whom she had “paid it forward.”  What might happen in your own relationships – with your spouse, teammates, friends, children – if you were to put this definition into practice, just as you do the Revolutionary Agreements?  Indeed, I notice with delight that to fully engage in the Art of Love, we naturally use every single one of the Agreements.

Care to join me in becoming a Love Artist?

Seeing the best in you,

Marian

If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather than dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities.

Poet Speaks His Truth

Don Donham’s
career spans 52 years and includes soldier, civil engineer, college professor, engineering sales, building inspector, chamber of commerce manager, earthship builder, small business government contract consultant, architectural designer and poet/writer.  He is presently committed to peace and the environment, both within and without.  In delightful poetic form, Don shares his journey with the Revolutionary Agreements. He recently remarked, “Perhaps if I had access to the Revolutionary Agreements back in 1955 and discovered the importance of having a life mission, I might not have had to sort through all those professions!”

MY TRUTH

The following describes my journey to find “my truth” and write it down as a life mission that I can start living today.

Ah, to live my Truth.
Be the authentic Me,
Boldly with courage
 For all to see.

With the Revolutionary Agreements,
I will start today.
With zest and zeal

I’m on my way!

I’ll be very creative,
Prosperous and free,
To travel the world
While just being Me.

I’ll be a beacon of Love
And live in harmony
With God and Nature
And all humanity.

And then I wrote as a mission statement:  I LIVE IN LOVE AND HARMONY WITH GOD, NATURE AND ALL HUMANITY AND I ENJOY THE FREEDOM, CREATIVITY AND ABUNDANCE OF THIS MAGNIFICENT UNIVERSE.

But then I thought:

Now wait………hold on.
I’m getting carried away.
Is this what I really want
For me…..today?

So I took this lofty statement
And placed it on the shelf
And looked more deeply
Within myself.

Keep it simple I thought,
At least just to start.
What do you want most
Down deep in your heart?

Then a small voice said gently,
“Let go and release.
Yes, use the Agreements
But just to find peace.

In the Light of Peace
You will be able to see
All your heart’s desires
Are just waiting to be.”

So then I wrote:  TO BE AT PEACE WITH MYSELF IN ANY SITUATION, WITH WHATEVER I HAVE, WHEREVER I AM, WITH WHOEVER I AM, IN THE ETERNAL NOW.

This may not be a “Great Truth” but it’s “My truth” and I am ‘stickin’ to it – at least for now and now is all we have, right?

Peace eternal,
Don Donham, April 9, 2007

Don’s poetic perspective touched my heart.  While he expressed some concern that he spent, or perhaps “wasted,” precious time sorting out who he is, I choose to see him as a man grown wise from much living, with knowledge to share and a beautiful way of expressing it. With great joy I relinquish my poet’s corner this issue to Don Donham. You are a gift and a wonderful addition to the world’s T.A.G. team for Truth, Acceptance and Gratitude.

Writing for peace,
Linda
